Located in the neighborhood of Gage Park in Chicago, Illinois, our school community is a home for learning. We read to understand our world and ourselves. We write to express our identities and experiences. And we share to build a community centered around understanding, respect, and individuality.

Independent Reading |
Reading Groups |
Any chance we get, we try to fill our brains with the knowledge of stories. Books teach us about the world and ourselves. Independently, we read so that when we come together as a group, we have grown by taking on the experiences of others.
Read AloudsListening to other people read is one of the best ways to learn new vocabulary and hear the correct pronunciation. Plus, it puts the reading in the hands of another and gives us time to just sit back and practice our listening skills.

Reading can't just be a solitary act. We have to share our insights about what we read and reading groups do just that! During groups, we come together to better understand both the novels and each others. We discuss our essential questions and try to determine the theme of our novels.
WritingWe love to share our stories and develop our voices. We know that great writers grow from the little seeds of ideas that emerge out of our experiences and insights as we grow. We find inspiration in the world around us and as we explore new authors and readings.
